Climatic chamber test
The climatic chamber is a laboratory instrument designed to simulate and control specific environmental conditions, such as temperature, humidity and thermal cycling, in order to evaluate the behavior of materials and components in extreme situations. Climate chamber tests are used in a variety of industries to verify a product’s durability and reliability over time.
Through controlled exposure to climatic variations, this type of environmental testing makes it possible to identify any critical issues, prevent failures, and ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards.
Types of tests that can be performed in a climate chamber
A wide range of climate chamber tests can be performed in the Test Engineering department. Each climate chamber test is designed on the specific needs of the customer and its component. Based on the needs of each test, different test parameters are defined and the most appropriate climate chamber is selected. The environmental characteristics to be taken into account when performing a climate chamber test are:
- test temperature
- RH control
Environmental conditioning can also be generated in conjunction with functional tests characteristic of the unit under test such as:
- electromechanical testing
- mechanical stresses
- flow tests
- pressure tests
etc.
Industries and applications
Climate chamber testing finds application in various industries where the resistance of materials and components to changing environmental conditions is a key requirement.
In the aerospace industry, these tests are used to verify the resistance of materials and electronic systems to the extreme temperature excursions that occur during flight.
In the automotive and agricultural fields, they enable the evaluation of the durability of components exposed to high temperatures, humidity and freeze-thaw cycles by simulating prolonged exposure to real weather conditions.
In the electronics industry, climate chamber testing is essential to ensure the reliability of printed circuit boards, batteries and devices subject to thermal variations.
The technical characteristics of our climatic chambers
Our Test Engineering department has 7 climatic chambers of various sizes, with temperatures ranging from -80° to 180°, and RH control with capacities to handle both components up to 2sqm in size and small items or material specimens.
There is also a dual chamber thermal shock facility to generate temperatures from -70°C to +220°C and -80°C to +100°C. Also in high demand by the space and electronics sectors.
