Vibration test

Vibration tests are fundamental tests for evaluating the behavior of components and systems subjected to dynamic stresses. These tests make it possible to identify weaknesses, structural defects, and to characterize the dynamic response of a component or finished product. To this end, specific operational measurements can be made at customer sites and vibration tests can be performed in the laboratory to verify the strength and reliability of systems.

These environmental tests, conducted in the vibration test laboratory, subject specimens to dynamic mechanical stresses, often combined with thermal cycling and controlled humidity, to replicate complex and realistic environments.
Vibration tests also support design and production processes, reducing the risk of failures in operation.

Our vibration testing laboratory

At TEC Eurolab we are able to support customers in performing vibration tests, simulating extreme operating conditions to analyze the dynamic behavior of components and systems. Our laboratory’s approach ensures different types of vibration tests that comply with international standards or manufacturers’ specifications.

The types of tests

The different types of vibration tests allow the test to be tailored to the specific needs of the product, ensuring a detailed and reliable analysis.
At TEC Eurolab we can perform all major vibration tests:

  • Sine: a test that applies a sinusoidal vibration with a variable frequency, used to identify the resonant frequencies of the component and evaluate its dynamic response.
  • Random: This test generates random vibrations that simulate real operating conditions, such as those found during transportation or operation in unpredictable stress environments.
  • Sine on random: combines sinusoidal and random vibrations to replicate complex environments, such as those typical of aerospace and automotive applications.
  • Shock: a test that subjects the specimen to sudden and intense stress, simulating shocks or impacts, to test its structural strength.
  • Sine dwell: uses sinusoidal vibrations maintained at a specific frequency for a specific period of time, ideal for testing long-term durability under critical conditions.

Instrumentation and techniques

The vibration test laboratory has 3 acquisition systems that can be combined with each other allowing up to 52 acquisition channels. We are also able to perform acoustic intensimetry measurements according to ISO 9614 and vibroacoustic measurements, which can be performed in the field or on vehicles, also with the aim of synthesizing profiles for accelerated vibration tests (Mission Synthesis).

Of paramount importance to the success of the test is the realization of the connection interface between the component to be tested and the shaker, which must reproduce as closely as possible the actual conditions under which the component is fastened while at the same time guaranteeing the dynamic response necessary not to interfere with the test.
Design, FEM validation and production of the above fixtures can be completely entrusted to us.

Regulatory standards and application areas

Vibration tests performed on shakers can be defined from international standards (e.g., IEC 60068, ISO 16750, MIL-STD-810H, RTCA DO-160G) or manufacturer-specific standards (e.g., CS.00056, VW 80000, GS97073), from bench or in-car measurements. The importance of vibration testing lies in the possibility of accurate and repeatable verifications, which are essential for industries such as aerospace, automotive, and biomedical, where component safety and durability are priorities.
