WHAT DESTRUCTIVE ANALYSIS OF THE WELDED JOINT CAN TEC EUROLAB CARRY OUT?

Qualifying a welded joint requires conducting various destructive tests to verify the mechanical, metallurgical and chemical characteristics of the material.

A MECHANICAL TESTING LABORATORY SPECIALIZED IN WELDING

TEC Eurolab’s mechanical testing laboratory enables it to meet customers’ testing needs on all major types of welded joints. Mechanical characterization tests can provide useful data in the pre-production stages, during qualification of the welding process, and to verify the maintenance of design characteristics by sampling assays belonging to production batches.

In addition to the main mechanical tests referred to in the standards as tensile test, bend test and resilience test, TEC Eurolab can support the customer in structuring fatigue validation campaigns of welded joints, operating with a wide range of servo-hydraulic and electro-mechanical systems, over a temperature range -80°C to 1200°C. The analysis of residual stresses and the possibility of analyzing the sampled data with strain gauges makes it possible to clarify the tension picture of the component before subjecting it to the mechanical stress test.

MACROGRAPHIC AND MICROGRAPHIC EXAMINATION

Metallurgical examination, in the dual sense of macrographic and micrographic examination, allows us to verify the quality of the welded joint by looking for any defects, such as porosity, lack of penetration, or identifying the presence of altered metallurgical phases. Using metallographic analysis, it is possible to analyze the condition of the material in the supplied state and verify the effectiveness of any heat treatments.

To provide a complete metallurgical analysis of the welded joint, it is essential to perform hardness tests on weld sections to verify that the hardness values of the base material, filler material, and thermally altered zone meet the specification.
