Tomographic analysis of Additive Manufacturing components

Industrial Computed Tomography could be a powerful instrument of control and acquisition of information for Additive Manufactured products. This technology can be useful not only during the production control, but also in First Article Inspection, validation of geometric parameters which are difficult to obtain with other acquisition systems, analysis of position, volume and geometry of the internal defects.

The obtained tomographic volume can be analyzed with a wide range of post processing visualization tools. In the example shown, the entire volume of Ti6Al4V lattice alloy, printed by SLM and scanned with the tomographic system installed in TEC Eurolab, was subjected to thicknesses analysis, allowing to promptly determine the thickness of the consolidated layer and to identify the presence internal defects.
