The extensometric test  is a ndt testing method that allows the evaluation the stress state of the material of a component in certain key positions. It is an essential investigation as a support to the design and R & D phases, which allows to monitor the stresses and strains suffered locally from a material and to evaluate how you close is the elastic limit in the most stressed points during the use.

A strain gauge is a very precise measuring device able to appreciate deformations in the order of p.p.m. (one part per million).

The measurements obtained through the strain gauge allow to evaluate, directly on the components, the level of stress-strain reached in the various conditions of assembly, manufacturing, exercise, environment, etc..

The extensometric test is a useful verification tool for the designer, it allows you to check the stress peaks in the most critical areas and to compare the data obtained experimentally with the result of the design activity.

This technique is able to evaluate the most complex multi-axial stress states, also indicating the principal directions of the solicitation. This test is then a safe system to evaluate the stress state of a component, also provides a valuable aid in resolving unexpected breakage occurred during the exercise.

This technique can be successfully used at any phase of the component life: during its manufacturing, during the assembling, during the exercise. It is of great interest the fact that the tests can be made directly on site, and therefore in absolutely realistic operating conditions.
Through the acquisition system and recording of incoming data, is then possible to revise the values measured during the tests and observe, for example, how the local voltage varies as a result of various loading conditions considered.
