Welding
Welding is a special process allowing to permanently join solid parts, obtaining material continuity.
Brazing is a special process allowing to obtain joints just melting the brazing alloy, maintaining the wholeness of joint edges.
In recent times, several welding and brazing methods optimising the process have been developed according to the specific needs of rapidity and precision. The techniques used in these processes are manual for welders and automatic or semi-automatic for welding operators. These are: - MANUAL TECHNIQUES: forge (welding and brazing), electrode welding, TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas); - SEMI-AUTOMATIC: continuous wire welding (MIG: Metal Inert Gas or MAG: Metal Active Gas), cored-wire welding; - AUTOMATIC TECHNIQUES: furnace (brazing), submerged arc brazing, TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), plasma brazing, laser brazing. The assurance of quality standards required by the Quality System certification standards is an obligation for each company performing welding or brazing machining. In this industry, too, TEC Eurolab s.r.l. supplies a qualified and timely service to all companies thanks to certified professionals: International Welding Engineer and International Welding Technologist.
Our centre is particularly equipped to draw documents, carry out lab tests and give technical advice to the mechanical companies which have to manage special processes such as welding and brazing in the framework of ISO 9000 certification. Moreover, in case of failure of welded elements during use, TEC Eurolab S.r.l. is able to trace back the failure causes and find the most suitable technical solution avoiding the repeating of the fault, as far as possible.
Offered services
Welding process approval The approval can be given according to the following standards: . EN288 . ASME IX . AWS D 1.1 . API 1104 . WPS drawing
WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) drawing The welding specification is a document pointing out and detailing the variables required for a particular application, in order to assure its repeatability.
WPAR (Welding Procedure Approval Record) drawing The procedure approval record must give the real parameters used to make the approval sample for WPS, with the relevant lab examinations.
Training of welders and technical workers Welder training, if necessary, is fundamental to their approval. TEC Eurolab S.r.l. trains the welders directly at the customers’, thanks to its skilled and experienced staff.
The training courses, aimed at the needs of the single companies, are suggested to: . welder operators/welders/brazers, these are multi-hour packages enabling the employees to obtain the welding/brazing license; . to technical operators having to manage the welding process in the frame of the quality system.
Approval of welders/brazers and welding operators The approval of welders and operators can be granted according to the following standards: . EN 287 . EN 1418 . ASME IX . AWS D 1.1 . API 1104
QW drawing (Welder Approval Test Certificate). The welder/welding operator approval is aimed at checking the skills or manual ability of the operator, thus approving him according to the validity fields provided in the reference standard.
Laboratory tests All laboratory tests necessary to approve the procedures and the operators, including non-destructive checks and the mechanical machining to get test samples, are directly carried out at TEC Eurolab s.r.l. laboratory, thus granting a time and cost saving. The tests are carried out according to the following reference standards: UNI EN 288/3, UNI EN 288/4, UNI EN 287/1, UNI EN 287/2, ISPESL Collection S and M, ASME code, AWS D1.1, API 1104, etc.
· SINAL accreditation for tests carried out according to UNI EN standards; · ISPESL recognition for pressure container tests; · IW-EWF-approved staff with Sincert-recognised IWE-IWT qualification; · Qualification to work as welding co-ordinators according to standard EN 719; · Designing of welded structures; · Inspection surveys by EWIT inspectors; · Metallurgic compatibility; · Control plans; · Non-destructive tests by ASNT level 3 SNT-TC-1A qualified technicians and CICPND qualified technicians according to standard EN 473
Failure causes in welded joints Our laboratory is specialized in tracing and solving the failure cause of welded joints. It does this by its technicians with a specific metallurgic and metallographic experience gained in the welding industry, in the failure cause field, by carrying out fatigue tests on faulty joints to assess the defect danger level, by calculating the residual life of industrial systems, as well as by calculating the ferrite in the melted area of austenitic stainless steels, etc.
