Metallic alloys
Metallic alloy is defined a two or more element chemical aggregate that has metallic characteristics. In order to know a metallic alloy and its properties is necessary to carry out many analyses to the aim to establish the structure, the percentages and the amounts of its components and the distinguishing characteristics.
These analysis are:
- Chemical analysis (optical emission spectrometry, simultaneous ICP emission spectrometry, atomic absorption, determination of gaseous compounds by oxygen stream combustion, RX microanalysis, electrolytic methods, etc.); - Mechanical tests (tests of hardness, traction, bending, compression, folding, etc.); - Metallographic examinations (micrographic and macrographic inspections, etc.); - Non destructive tests (visual inspection, penetrating fluids, magnetic-particle test, ultrasound and radiography); - Extensometric tests; - Thermal and thermochemical treatments check (of reinforcement and protection).
